Become A Mentor

The Taylor Bennett Foundation’s work is only possible because of the support of numerous companies and individuals working in the PR, communication and media sectors, and beyond. There are a number of ways you can support the Foundation – including involvement in our mentoring programme.

WHAT BECOMING A MENTOR INVOLVES
Our mentoring programme has allowed us to expand the reach of the Foundation’s work, supporting a greater number of talented graduates as they pursue a career in communications and PR. This is how the programme works for companies supporting the initiative.

• The company makes a donation of £500 per mentee to the Taylor Bennett Foundation to cover administration and management.

• We will select an appropriate graduate or final year student for mentoring and provide background information to the company.

• The company will select the mentor – typically a junior or mid-level member of staff for whom this will be a personal professional development opportunity.

• We will provide guidelines for mentor and mentee including suggested frequency/regularity of meetings, the scope of advice to provide, and information on how to track progress.

• Subjects for mentors to cover with their mentee include: opportunities in the PR industry, writing an effective CV and tips for job applications. We would also ask that the mentor introduce the mentee to their industry networks.

• The mentoring would last for six months; we will check in after a month and three months to monitor the arrangement.

• We will provide a mechanism for evaluation: three (very brief, five questions max) online surveys for the company and the mentee to complete during the six months to measure progress.

• If the mentee is asked to do practical work at the company they will be paid at least the national minimum wage during that period; otherwise there is no financial commitment to the mentee from the company.
