ANNOUNCEMENT

The Taylor Bennett Foundation (“TBF” or “Foundation”), which works to improve ethnic diversity in and access to the communications industry, announces today that Melissa Lawrence will join the organisation on 3 December 2018 as Chief Executive Officer.

Melissa joins the Foundation from The Brokerage, a social mobility charity, where she has worked for 16 years. As Head of Programmes at the charity since 2016, Melissa was responsible for the strategic oversight and direction of the education and talent development programmes and worked closely with corporate partners to develop bespoke talent development programmes for London’s non-advantaged young people. She has extensive experience of building strong partnerships with businesses in the finance and professional services sectors and has helped a generation of diverse young Londoners gain access to a variety of employment experiences.

Sarah Pinch FCIPR, MIoD, Chair of the TBF said: “Melissa joins us at a very exciting time, as we look to capitalise on our strengths and achieve the next stage of our growth. The Foundation has won multiple awards and built a strong legacy. We are keen on building on this strong foundation and Melissa has the knowledge, skills and experience to help us achieve our growth objectives. I’m looking forward to working with Melissa and her team to develop and implement new ideas, partnership with our key stakeholders and continue helping BAME young people enter the communications profession and improving the diversity in our industry.”

Melissa Lawrence added: “I am delighted to be joining the Foundation at this very exciting time in its growth and development. The TBF has a fantastic track record in delivering high-impact programmes that make a positive difference to young peoples’ lives. I am looking forward to building on this success, bringing more partners on board and developing our offering to improve financial sustainability to ensure we make a lasting difference.”

The Taylor Bennett Foundation was founded in 2007 to help overcome the lack of diversity in the communications industry and address the shortage of BAME graduates entering a career in PR. The charity runs four different programmes, including its flagship, award-winning 10-week Training Programme, sponsored by leading communications agencies in London and Scotland; mentoring programme; summer internships; and PR lectures. Since inception, 97% of alumni are in full-time employment with 60% working in the communications industry.

If you are interested in working with the Foundation, please contact Ada Nworgu (ada@taylorbennettfoundation.org) who will be delighted to arrange a meeting.
