Job Brief/Purpose 

This role aims to support Arup’s ambition to position itself more effectively in the external market. As PR Manager, you will work closely with the Head of PR & Campaigns, leading on specific activity streams – both proactive and reactive - within the press office for Arup in the UKIMEA (UK; India; the Middle East and Africa) Region.

You’ll play a key role in helping shape and execute corporate communications campaigns that cut across Arup’s market facing portfolios such as Energy, Water and Resources; Cities, Planning and Design; Climate and Sustainability Services and you’ll support our local presence across the Region, positioning Arup as a consultant of choice.    

In this role, you will build relationships with senior-level stakeholders and press offices in other regions within the firm and ideally have strong national and trade media contacts across various vertical sectors including engineering, design, transport and energy. 

As a PR Manager, you’ll be a key part of the press office. You’ll be joining our Clients, Markets and Communications function, where you will have the opportunity to support and drive integrated campaigns with our marketing and social media colleagues across the Region. 

Relationships 
The role sits within the UKIMEA Communications team and reports to the Head of PR & Campaigns, UKIMEA.
 
The role holder will engage with senior leaders across Arup – Portfolio and geography leads in particular - defining and driving proactive media campaigns that align to their strategic goals. They will also support on issues and crisis management, offering PR advice, support and messaging where appropriate including shared out of hours support. The role holder will deputise for PR & Campaigns Lead where appropriate.  

The role will require liaison and influence with multiple senior-level internal stakeholders, including Board members, Portfolio leaders, Geography leaders and CMC leadership. 

The holder will work closely with digital marketing and social media specialists to embed best practices in digital PR (SEO, backlinks, syndications, increasing traffic to Arup.com) to help Arup improve its online presence.
  
There will be a significant liaison with external clients, partners and communications teams from other organisations to ensure appropriate delivery of PR activity around projects/partnerships for mutual benefit. 

The role will require positive collaboration with the CMC network to ensure press office activities are amplified in a timely fashion with internal communications, social media and marketing colleagues. The role will also have regular links to global comms to adapt and share content in a two-way flow.

The post holder will be developed professionally through the UKIMEA CMC Network. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Taking a central role in shaping and delivering PR and media relations activity across the UKIMEA Region 
  • Positioning Arup as a consultant of choice in local geographies  
  • Playing a key role in supporting the delivery of integrated campaigns with earned media at the heart. This should include influencing planning, execution, and measurement of success 
  • Instrumental in maintaining a positive external reputation for Arup through proactive and reactive press coverage and other media relations activity 
  • Providing media relations advice and support for the UKIMEA region 
  • Where appropriate, provide counsel and/or line manage junior member/s of the Press office team, supporting their career and wellbeing. 
  • Provide advice and support on media relations for spokespeople.  
  • Collaborate with press office colleagues to provide PR & Campaigns Lead with regular function updates for relevant Board reports (Group and Region)  
  • Being a visible and collaborative connector to ensure press office activities are amplified in a timely fashion with internal communications, social media and marketing colleagues 
  • Collaborate across CMC to upskill colleagues in how they can best support/ drive effective media relations. 

We are looking for candidates with the following skills, experience and attributes:

  • Good experience in public relations and issues management. Ideally, within a professional services, advisory or knowledge economy context. 
  • A good understanding/ experience of/ interest in the built environment and the transport sector  
  • Strong relationships with media (national and trade) across multiple sectors including, engineering and transport – relationships with media across water; infrastructure; planning; energy are a bonus 
  • Strong management skills and experience 
  • Skills and experience in the use of media monitoring tools  
  • Ability to build relationships with a broad range of stakeholders 
  • Ability to prioritise, assess and manage PR and media relations activity across diverse business and service offering 
  • Excellent PR writing skills 
  • Excellent oral communication skills 
  • A reliable and flexible working approach
  • CIM / CIPR qualification would be beneficial
