Public Affairs Officer

Contract Type: Permanent

Working Hours: Full time 35 hours per week

Salary: £38,934 - £40,503 per annum

Job overview

The award-winning Communications and Campaigns team is key to achieving the council’s ambitions – telling the story of its priorities, campaigning on behalf of residents and businesses, and supporting the transformation of services for the people who use them.

In the new post of Public Affairs Officer, you’ll lead public affairs campaigns that aim to bring real change for our residents.  You’ll make sure Islington’s voices on the issues that matter most – like building new council homes, creating safer communities, and tackling the climate emergency – are heard by those who design national and regional policies that affect lives in our borough.

Main duties of the job

You’ll build new relationships with key influencers and stakeholders across London and beyond, and develop our existing strong networks with elected representatives, London boroughs and policy organisations.  You’ll track policymaking, prepare councillors and officers to give oral evidence to Select Committees, and oversee responses to government consultations.

You’ll come with good experience of delivering public affairs work, perhaps in local government or Westminster, with a clear understanding of the legislative process, and how to turn complex information into compelling stories.

Working for our organisation

In our recently refreshed team, you’ll work alongside campaigns and external communications officers, and digital and engagement specialists, in an exciting new post that will make a real difference to local lives.
