I graduated in BA History and Arabic from SOAS, University of London in 2016. My degree was highly analytical, and I spent my year abroad in Amman, Jordan. After my studies, I traveled to Shanghai where I studied Chinese and completed a PR & Marketing Internship. My roles included attending press launches, liaising with influencers and magazines, arranging client meetings, managing social media platforms and writing articles/blogs.

I applied to the Foundation’s Summer Stars work placement programme as I had been struggling to break into the PR industry despite having plenty of internships and work experience. The Summer Stars programme seemed like an excellent way to build connections in the PR industry. I thoroughly enjoyed the lecture week and immersed myself into my 8-week work placement at the Corporate Affairs team at Coty, a leading global beauty company making cosmetic, skin, fragrance & hair brands. I have gained invaluable experience, particularly in internal comms, Corporate Social Responsibility, events and networking. I am delighted that Coty has in fact offered to extend my placement until the end of the year!

None of this would be possible without the Taylor Bennett Foundation, it’s an invaluable charity for BAME graduates who need help breaking into the PR and comms industry. I cannot praise and thank the team at TBF enough for this opportunity!

Diana Robertson, VP Corporate Affairs UK & Ireland said: I am delighted to say that we have extended Rahima’s internship with us until the end of the year! She has made such a good start here that we would love to give her further opportunity to increase her work experience in an industry that she is obviously quite passionate about!
