At this charity, the Communications function looks after all types of communications which are what is known as ‘earned’ – in other words, we don’t pay directly for space for the messages (this would be ‘paid’ communications, which includes things like advertising). Communications deals with things like PR, media relations, organic social media posts, events for our colleagues, volunteers and professionals, staff communications, and much more. We also look after our relationships with celebrities, and people with cancer who allow us to share their stories.

We have opportunities for three interns within Communications. This includes spending time with our Social Media team, supporting content ideas, and learning how to tailor content to the different social media platforms. Additionally, you will spend time in their growing Communications team. This team works with all other teams within Communications to tell our charity story of who we are as a charity, an employer, and as a force for improvement in cancer care. You’ll get to work on some interesting projects including our thought leadership (how we profile ideas and experience form our senior leaders and partners),and get an insight into how all the parts of communications work together to build a story.

What you will do:

  • Social media content creation
  • Social media data analysis
  • Writing for different types of media and other communications channels
  • Coming up with creative ideas to meet objectives
  • Relationship management
  • Time and workload management

The skills they are looking for:

Essential criteria are simply an interest in communications, and a thirst for learning and trying new things. Strengths for the role will be the ability and confidence to ask questions; curiosity to challenge and delve deeper into why we do things; and creative thinking to help us look at communications briefs and challenges in a different way.
