We are looking for a PR and Communications Officer to join our team to work alongside the Chief Executive to implement the Foundation's strategy and raise our visibility. The primary purpose of this role is to oversee and manage the communication and marketing channels showcasing who we are and the great work that we do through our flagship professional development programmes.

Location: London, with some opportunity for home working

Salary: £25,000.00 pro rata
Employer Pension Plan, combined minimum of 8 % contribution
25 days annual leave (pro rata) plus bank holidays and organisation close down between Christmas and New Year.

The role

The PR and Communications Officer will be responsible for driving the delivery of the PR and Communications strategy for the Taylor Bennett Foundation. We are looking for someone with a good understanding of the charity sector, has generalist experience in PR and Communications and is media conscious around the underrepresentation of ethnically diverse professionals within the PR & Communications industry. This role would suit someone who is confident, passionate and energetic and can lead on taking our marketing and communications to the next level, engaging more stakeholders, communities, young people and the PR and communications industry with our work and impact.

Main duties and responsibilities

 The Communications Officer will lead or assist across the following duties:

Strategy development 

  • Support the Chief Executive and board of trustees with the development of key communication and messaging assets that supports the mission and values at the Foundation
  • Lead on developing the PR & Communications plan for the Foundation, aligned to the organisation's strategic goals.
  • Work directly with the Chief Executive to identify new business/ PR and media opportunities for the benefit of the Foundation
  • Assist the Chief Executive with the media and communications outreach for the Foundation's events (fundraising and conferences) as required
  • Participate actively in the development and planning of Taylor Bennett Foundation, with colleagues through team reviews, training, team meeting and business planning days

Media relations

  • Create a media programme and social media plan for the Foundation
    • Scan for media opportunities, including speaking events and podcasts, where we can place the Foundation's staff, trustees and alumni as 'expert voices'
  • Develop a media and influencer list to strengthen our sponsors, partners and alumni relations  
  • Work with the Chief Executive, partners and sponsors to pitch stories to journalists on our work that meet our key objectives
  • Provide regular PR and media updates to the Chief Executive and Board of Trustees
  • Monitor the media and share insights that are relevant to/for the Foundation

Content, Marketing & Social Media Management 

  • Create a media and editorial content calendar that can be utilised to support the social media, internal and external communications for the Foundation
    • Lead on writing and/or proofing blog posts, adding and amending content, selecting and uploading images/videos where relevant
  • Manage the Foundation's social media channels and management platforms, with support from the wider team
  • Review and manage all content developed for the Taylor Bennett Foundation website, email and social media marketing
    • Help prepare and send e-newsletters using Mailchimp
    • Review and sign-off all content produced for marketing and promotion
    • Organise and streamline the social media assets, branding and content development cycle to align to our programmes, news updates and announcements
    • Ensure all content createdand visual assets generated are in line with the Foundation's branding guidelines and appropriate for the relevant programmes

Person specification


  • Digital, social media and media relations experience
  • Excellent knowledge of media and communications and how these can be used to impact positive change
  • Experience in writing for different audiences while still retaining the organisation's tone of voice
  • Ability to create angles and stories to pitch to relevant journalists and stakeholders
  • Strong work ethic and demonstrated ability to multitask
  • Excellent written, copywriting, editing and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritise, work under pressure and deliver against set targets to agreed deadlines.
  • Strong interest in equitable diversity and belief in the Taylor Bennett Foundations mission.
  • Exceptional organisational, client management and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Knowledgeable in the challenges regarding the lack of ethnic diversity in the PR and Communications industry.
  • Demonstrable interest in issues surrounding diversity, equity and inclusion and lack of ethnic representation across all industries
  • Proficient in Salesforce, Dropbox, Microsoft Office and Google Workspace 


  • Demonstrable knowledge and design skills of Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud Photoshop and InDesign, with baseline video editing experience.
