CIPR | Council Member

Join the CIPR Council in 2025 and 2026 and help us to reshape our profession as it prepares for the future.

We are looking for members who are passionate about the profession, who can bring diverse perspectives and experiences to our community and who are ready to make a positive contribution. All Council members are volunteers.

As a CIPR Council member, you are responsible for:

1. Shaping the Institute’s future development by:

  • Debating points of strategy or principle to provide guidance and perspective to the Board
  • Raising issues of concern for the Board to pursue
  • Making the best use of your understanding of the issues the Institute faces to help the Board develop
    proposals and policies.

2. Inspiring support for the Institute’s objects by:

  • Acting as advocates of the Institute among members, stakeholder organisations and the public
  • Promoting high levels of skill, knowledge, competence, standards of practice and professional
    conduct on the part of public relations practitioners
  • Promoting research, education and public understanding of public relations.

3. Ensuring accountability by:

  • Monitoring the fulfilment by the Ie Institute of its Objects as set out in the Charter and supporting the adopted strategic plan
  • Monitoring the performance of the Board and holding it to account in its control and management of the administration of the Institute
  • If necessary, removing members of the Board in accordance with the procedures set out in the Regulations
  • Commenting on proposals from the Board on the alteration of the Institute’s Regulations.

4. Advising the Board on matters which the Board has referred to it for consideration:

  • Council usually meets for a half-day four times each year. Most meetings are held online.
  • For in-person meetings the CIPR pays reasonable travel expenses within its established policies.

The application process is managed by the CIPR Nominations Committee, which is charged with recommending to members a competent, representative, diverse and balanced group of candidates for CIPR elections to Board and Council. Members then vote on the list of recommended candidates to elect those who should serve on Council.
