NHS Confederation | External Affairs Assistant

  • Salary: £26,837 including London weighting allowance
  • Location: Agile working with London base and regular travel to London
  • Contract: 12 month FTC

We have an exciting opportunity for an aspiring communications professional to launch their career in communications by working in one of the busiest and highest-profile healthcare communications teams in the country.

If you are passionate about politics, the media and the NHS, and would either like to begin your career in communications, or if you are looking to kickstart a new career in the profession, we would love to hear from you.

As our External Affairs Assistant you will:

  • Help us monitor the news and events in Parliament
  • Respond to media enquiries, publish content on our website and promote our work across our social media channel
  • Help to develop briefings and correspondence for parliamentarians and government officials
  • Carry out online research and make sure our contact lists are up to date so that we engage the right people in our work

We are encouraging applications from candidates from black and minority ethnic backgrounds. The health care communications profession is under-represented when it comes to ethnic diversity and our communications, as a recent report by the NHS Confederation found. Our internship programme is a small step in trying to address this within our own communications department.

About you

We would love to hear from you if you:

  • Adopt a professional and values-based approach to how you work.
  • A keen interest in how the media works, what makes a good story, and in politics / current affairs
  • Are an excellent team player and also confident to work independently using initiative to complete tasks
  • Can prioritise and manage workload with tight deadlines
  • Have good communication skills and confident to deal with people at all levels

About Us

The NHS Confederation is the membership organisation that brings together, supports and speaks for the whole healthcare system in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
