About Taylor Bennett Foundation
The Taylor Bennett Foundation (UK) is an award-winning UK-based charity that encourages diverse talent from Black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds to pursue a career in public relations and communications. Established in 2008 by executive search firm Taylor Birchwood (formerly Taylor Bennett), and founding partner Brunswick Group, the Foundation exists to increase greater ethnic diversity representation in the industry. Role purpose
The Taylor Bennett Foundation is seeking to appoint a Trustee who brings a strong commitment to our mission and values, and who will complement the existing skills and experience of the Board.
As a Trustee, you will contribute to the effective governance of the Foundation, helping to shape its strategic direction, and ensure that it is financially sustainable and continues to deliver impact for the young people it serves. Trustees act collectively and individually in the best interests of the charity, providing appropriate support and constructive challenge to the Chief Executive.
The Board is ultimately responsible for all that the Foundation does. Day-to-day and operational management is delegated to the Chief Executive and staff team.
Main responsibilities
Strategy & governance
- Contribute actively to the development, oversight and delivery of the Foundation’s strategy, working in partnership with fellow Trustees and the Chief Executive.
- Ensure that the Foundation operates in line with its charitable objectives, values and mission.
- Attend Board meetings regularly and prepare fully, contributing insight, experience and constructive challenge to discussions and decision-making.
- Support the Board in maintaining high standards of governance and compliance with charity law and best practice.
- Provide oversight of the Foundation’s organisational development and guidance on HR/People matters as they arise.
Decision-making, risk and control
- Share responsibility with the Board for safeguarding the Foundation’s assets, reputation and long-term sustainability.
- Scrutinise financial and performance information to ensure the organisation is operating effectively and responsibly.
- Contribute to the identification, review and management of key risks and opportunities facing the Foundation.
- Support robust, informed and timely decision-making in the best interests of the charity.
External and ambassadorial
- Act as an ambassador for the Taylor Bennett Foundation, promoting its work, values and impact where appropriate.
- Use personal and professional networks to support the Foundation’s profile, partnerships, fundraising or influence, where relevant and appropriate.
- Identify or support in the identification of fundraising opportunities and new or expanded income streams for the Foundation.
- Represent the Foundation at events or meetings from time to time, as agreed.

- Support the organisation in recognising and addressing barriers to participation, progression and representation within the communications industry.
Knowledge and experience
- Experience of operating at a high level, either in executive or non-executive roles, within the communications or adjacent sectors.
- Appreciation of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship (or a willingness to develop this quickly).
- Insight into the not-for-profit, education, youth, or adjacent sectors, gained through professional or voluntary experience.
- Understanding of, or strong interest in, issues of access, equality, social mobility, diversity and representation.
- Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, with demonstrable experience or lived understanding of these issues.
Skills and capabilities
- Ability to think strategically and contribute to long-term planning and problem-solving.
- Sound judgement, with the confidence to ask questions and challenge constructively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a diverse Board.
- Ability to analyse information and contribute meaningfully to discussions on performance, risk and impact.
- Willingness to use networks, skills or expertise to support the Foundation beyond Board meetings where appropriate.
